Your Voice Matters - Hood Heroes 2024

A group of 10 young people worked with David to publish a book called Hood Heroes. Children identified problems in the community and solved them as superheroes. They also wrote about their own real life superheroes. 

The book was published as a paperback and eBook so families and extended family can access it at home and around the world. It was launched at the school. 

The students in the project were identified by their school as needing encouragement with their writing due to ongoing effects of the COVID lockdowns and loss of schooling at that time. 

Objectives

• Strengthened young people’s writing skills by taking them through a fun writing project and teaching them key literacy skills.
• Encouraged imaginative thinking.
• Created scenarios where young people are powerful, helping them believe in themselves as important, talented, and clever. We want therm to know that they matter, that they have agency, that they can make positive changes in our world, and that their voices matter.
